Dyson is creating a prototype motor for their vacuums that will record how it has been used and the internal diagnostics relating to the motor itself.
When the owner has a problem, they call the support number and either hold the phone to a port on the vacuum or connect the vacuum directly to the Internet! How great that would be compared to the wait for an Engineer to show, that bad side of that is if you’ve misused the machine, they’ll know instantly!
Why this kind of technology isn’t in most of our devices at home already, I don’t know. Washing machines, dishwashers, televisions, stereos, they should all be upgradeable and have Internet connection capabilities for remote access from Engineers.
