A film that seemingly has lots of potential, but is ruined by an overly sentimental story and huge over acting from Nicholas Cage. There are so many points where it’s either obvious what’s going to happen, or events are just far too cheesily contrived.
There’s really not much more to say about the movie. Yes, it has a heart warming ending and tries desperately to be something more heavyweight than it is, but it just falls short. There are so many unexplored avenues and failed opportunities in this movie, and if anyone can understand a word the child speaks, then you must have a doctorate in languages.
Still, it does actually warm the heart, however much it fails in other areas.
