International Paint - Garage Floor Failure

Okay, here's the latest problem and I've just sent my first enquiry to International Paints, so let's see how this tracks out. I sealed my Garage some time ago with International Concrete Sealer paint, and it worked a charm. It stopped the dust fallout that was happening on my car and covering it in concrete dust within a day. Superb. Then I decided to paint the floor with a heavy duty (mind those words now) garage floor paint, for this I chose the Smokey Blue Quick Drying Floor Paint from the very same company. The Concrete Sealant actually recommends using...Read the full story of "International Paint - Garage Floor Failure"...
Day Six, Screenings One

Another not so good day, because of all the writing I had to do and feeling a little swamped I didn't go to the Serenity press conference and photocall, something I bitterly regretted afterwards. That would have been my first of both ever, I guess part of me chickened out at the whole thing as well. Still, not a big deal as I was off to see Green Street in the evening as a member of the public....Read the full story of "Day Six, Screenings One"...
Day Five, Screenings One

This day started off really badly by missing the screening of La Moustache. I somehow wrote the start time down incorrectly on my calendar, which then copied to my Palm, phone and work calendar...so it was wrong everywhere. There I was at 09:20 for the 09:00 screening....Read the full story of "Day Five, Screenings One"...
Day Four, Screenings One

What an easy day this was in comparison to those before. With one movie kicking off at 09:30 I would have the afternoon free to meet Paul, have some time with my girlfriend so she didn't call the Police when I walked in the front door, and some writing time. Radiant was the second painful experience I had of the festival. However this was a bit more difficult as both the writer and editor were at the Press screening to answer questions afterwards....Read the full story of "Day Four, Screenings One"...
Day Three, Screenings Four

It was another 9am start, and I was very tired. Down to a cinema I'm really starting to love, the Cameo, particularly cinema one with the big screen. The day started with a real scorcher of a movie, Thumbsucker. I was really surprised by this movie - mental note, must listen to the advice of Todd from Twitch from now on - I sat next to a group of Press people who so noticeably did not laugh at the same moments as everyone else did, in particular those with Keanu Reeves. Yet mildly quirky moments that would erupt them into...Read the full story of "Day Three, Screenings Four"...
Day Two, Screenings Four, Director One

The second day began at Cineworld, and let me just interrupt myself there and say that the days I'm referring to are not the actual Festival days, these are the days at which I'm attending...so day two is my second visit...so far this just coincides with the Festival days...look, now I'm making it complicated. Let's get back to the writing. At this point I have to say that I think I'm the only EIFF blogger to achieve a post for a second day, even at a day late. The other blogs I've seen - which are attached to larger sites...Read the full story of "Day Two, Screenings Four, Director One"...
Day one, screening one
Posted by richardb at Wednesday 17 August 2005 | Comments (2)
I started off the day with the usual trawl of the Internet sites to find some interesting stories for the Movie Blog, not many as it turned out, and then I turned my attention to check my email, that's when the biggest surprise of the day came, bigger than anything that happened at the EIFF Press Centre or my first screening....Read the full story of "Day one, screening one"...
Cyclists and Motorists - Pt I - Cyclists
Posted by richardb at Thursday 11 August 2005 | Comments (1)
I've just started cycling to work again after a very long break, and it's tough. It's a thirty minute cycle into work and a fourty minute cycle back. I know, you're asking about that extra ten minutes...well it's downhill one way, and not the other! For the most part it's a really pleasant cycle in, alongside the canal with plenty of greenary, some families of ducks and geese, and no cars. We'll come back to those in part II. However there is one annoying thing throughout the cycle, other cyclists....Read the full story of "Cyclists and Motorists - Pt I - Cyclists"...
Movie writing and the EIFF
Posted by richardb at Tuesday 9 August 2005 | Comments (2)
I'm excited today as my writing takes another step forward. There have been a number of big leaps for me so far, firstly there's been writing for The Movie Blog and watching the monthly visits grow from 300,000 to 800,000. Then there was getting approved as Press in the Edinburgh cinemas and getting sent screeners for review from real life Directors. In my mind these have been huge moves in my life, and have filled me with drive and excitement. Now, the next big leap is that just yesterday my EIFF Press Accreditation came through. I'm officially accepted as Press...Read the full story of "Movie writing and the EIFF"...
Half filled sandwiches

You know what I hate, apart from the other fifty million things, I'll tell you, half filled sandwiches. I've just picked up my Tuna Mayonnaise Tesco Finest sandwich and bitten into it, sure there's a circle of tuna in the middle, but there's nothing at the edge!...
