Braid Hills Hotel Bistro

We'd heard good things about this place, and with it being nearby and my parents down for the weekend, we thought we might give it a go. Now though I wish we hadn't.

The location looks great, and when we walked in it looked like it might be a nice place. The first sign that things might be a bit wrong was when we were pointed to our table across the other side of the room by one of the serving staff who remained behind the bar.

XBox 360: Call of Duty 3

Well I received Call of Duty 3 on Christmas Day and I finished it last night, despite the game's best attempts at stopping me.

Now let me say that in my past I was a hardened gamer. We used to run Doom, Quake and Tom Clancy game competitions all the time, and I was a more than healthier winner of most. I played the consoles at home, and games on the PC, and played a lot online too.

Nowadays other priorities have come forward. There's life in general, and then there's the place that sucks all my spare time, Filmstalker.

So I'm amazed that I've finished the game in under five days without huge sessions in front of the console. In fact I'm disappointed.

XBox 360: Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Double Agent

I love this series, without a doubt. I absolutely love sneaking games which require stealth and planning much more than any other game I think I’ve ever played. So it was with excitement I awaited the latest Splinter Cell to be released for the Xbox 360.

One concern I did have though was that the trailers showed a lot of running about in the light and shooting at people, was the sneaking element gone in favour of a first person shooter in places? Time would tell.

Tribeca - Puerto Pollensa

On a recent visit to Puerto Pollensa we were told to go and try this restaurant called Tribeca. It appealed to me because the name had movie connections with the Tribeca Film Festival, and the restaurant looked small and classy inside.

When we visited we hadn't made a reservation and were greeted warmly. They were busy but there would be a table in half an hour. So we disappeared for a few drinks and came back to a readied table.

Tomas Blanco Crespo Rioja 2003

Interestingly this wine from Marks and Spencers doesn't have a strong bouquet, however it might be wise to bear in mind we've just eaten chilli burgers with chilli sauce, roquefort cheese, and potato wedges covered in a Jamaican jerk...so there may have been some external influence in tasting this wine!

Despite all that the wine is lovely. It has a velvety texture and I defintely caught the black fruit taste, which was actually blackcurrant. My girlfriend caught the red fruit, which was actually raspberry. Then there's a little bit of spice which made this wine a lovely choice. Very pleasant and quite reasonable from M&S.

Monteguelfo Chianti 2004

It's been a long time since I've entered a bottle of wine in the review section, and indeed anything in the reviews that aren't movies. However last weekend we made a trip to Bottoms Up and took advantage of a good deal they have on just now with 3 for 2 on just about everything, and you can mix and match, so we tried out some old favourites and some new.

Monteguelfo Chianti 2004 was one such new bottle we tried, and we were sorely disappointed. The wine had no real flavour to it, there were nice tannins which weren't too overpowering and a smokey, oakey taste, and that was about it. In my limited knowledge of wine I had assumed Chainti's were tastier, not so here however.
